Does ChatGPT recommend your brand?
Your customers now ask some of their questions to ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers rather than to Google search. These tools pick a few sources and write a single answer; a brand that is not picked is simply absent from that conversation. We start by measuring where your brand stands today.
What the report shows you.
We run the questions customers in your market ask through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google, and put who gets recommended and what is said about your brand into one table. The rows below are an example of the report format.
- “What does your brand do”Describes your brand correctly and cites your website.Recognises
- “Can you recommend a firm that does this”Recommends three firms; two are competitors and you are not on the list. Not recommended
- “Your brand or your competitor”Uses your competitor’s current details and repeats outdated information about you.Confuses
- “Firms offering this service in your city”Builds the list from Google Business Profile reviews. Not recommended
- “Prices for this product”Takes the information from a comparison site and does not mention you.Not recommended
Four steps before a recommendation.
These are the AI equivalent of the four search thresholds. The first three are fixed on your site; the fourth is earned outside it.
Can it reach you
Can the crawler read the page
robots.txt or the CDN may be blocking AI crawlers. The ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity crawlers do not run JavaScript; if content is rendered in the browser, they see an empty page.
Does it understand you
Is it clear who the brand is
Organization markup, links to your social profiles, the same name, address and phone everywhere. A lesser-known name is easily confused with something else.
Does it quote you
Can the content be used as an answer
AI tools do not quote generic marketing copy. Paragraphs that answer directly, figures, tables, dates and headings phrased as questions get quoted.
Does it recommend you
Do others talk about you
Recommendation lists come largely from outside the site: business profile reviews, directories, platforms, press and comparison articles.
ON YOUR SITE · fixed within weeks
OUTSIDE · the slowest layer
You can measure the first two steps yourself right now: the free website checker now also checks AI crawler access, the content visible without JavaScript and brand identity markup.

Frequently asked.
The foundation is the same: content that can be crawled, understood and trusted. Google says its AI answers rest on its core ranking systems and need no special markup. The difference is on the ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude side: when choosing sources, these tools give more weight to quotable structure that answers directly and to how often the brand is mentioned elsewhere. GEO does not replace SEO; it builds on it.
No. The model decides which sources to use, and no agency controls that decision. What we can guarantee is the work and the measurement: which questions recommend whom, what is said about you and how that changes month to month are set out in a written report.
Two clocks are running. In answers the tools write after searching the web, access and structure fixes can show within weeks as pages are recrawled. The model’s own knowledge only changes with new training, and nobody can say when that will be. Being mentioned elsewhere is the slowest layer and takes months.
It is not required. Google states plainly that its AI answers need no special file. Some AI tools do read it to summarise a site. It is cheap to set up, so we use it on our own site, but we do not claim it brings visibility on its own.
Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot are separated into their own channel in GA4. ChatGPT often adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to the links it gives. Every enquiry through a form also records which source the visitor first arrived from, which is how you see whether AI actually brings in business.
Yes. The measurement, reporting and calls run remotely in English, and the question set is built in the language and market your customers search in. We work in GMT+3, which overlaps with the UK and European working day.
